Talladega – A statement from AIDB said the board and Dr. Dennis Gilliam “reached a mutual agreement to not renew Dr. Gilliam’s contract as President.”
Only weeks after the release of state audits, the president of the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind will be replaced, though nothing has been released by the school about a replacement, interim or permanent. Gilliam’s contract is set to expire on Aug. 31, 2026.
Five consecutive years of state audits have revealed repeated financial control issues. Also, the school’s cash reserve had fallen by nearly 80% since 2022, along with an operating budget gap that had nearly doubled since 2021.
