
Mount Olive – The human remains discovered during a March search in the Mount Olive community have been positively identified as a missing Sylacauga man by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences.
On Friday, March 13, 2026, the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office spearheaded an extensive search in a wooded area in the Mount Olive community. During the search, investigators found what they believed to be human remains, according to the sheriff’s office. The scene was immediately secured as investigators, crime scene personnel, and assisting agencies began processing the area, and the remains were transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for examination and identification.
The body was determined to be that of Shannon Lee Morris, who was last reported seen in May, 2025 at the Exxon station at the corner of U.S. Hwy 280 and County Rd. 49. Morris’ vehicle was later located in Coosa County.
The investigation remains ongoing and details are limited. Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death and whether any criminal activity was involved.
