
Oak Grove & Childersburg – Several recurring annual events in the area have been cancelled due to the possibility of severe weather associated with Tropical Storm Isaias, as Gov. Kay Ivey declared a State of Emergency for the southern two-thirds of Alabama.
The annual Oak Grove Fall Festival, originally scheduled for this Saturday, October 10th has been cancelled. No decision has been announced on the possibility of a make-up date. Organizers had described this year’s event as the biggest and best ever, o we hope they can find a way to accommodate as much of that as possible.
Also, the first leg of Ride to the Rescue in Childersburg this weekend has been postponed. They expect to make an announcement on a reschedule date late on Monday, October 12th, The coastal leg in Linden will proceed as scheduled on October 24th.
Gov. Ivey has already declared a state of emergency 40 of Alabama’s 67 counties through at least midnight on Wednesday, October 14th, warning that forecasts show a real likelihood Isaias could impact Alabama as a hurricane as early as Friday. She urged residents to prepare seriously despite hopes for minimal impacts, and to monitor reliable updates as the weekend approaches.
