A Legacy of Leadership: Dr. Michele Eller announces retirement after more than 28 Years in Education

Sylacauga – After more than 28 years dedicated to serving students, educators, families, and communities, Dr. Michele Eller is beginning a new chapter as she announces her retirement from public education effective February 1, 2027.

Eller’s career has been defined by a commitment to students, a belief in the power of relationships, and a determination to ensure that schools prepare every child for a successful future.

“We want to thank Superintendent Dr. Michele Eller for her years of dedicated service to Sylacauga City Schools and for the tremendous commitment she has shown to our students, teachers, administrators, and families. Her leadership has helped strengthen our school system and expand opportunities for our students, and the impact of that work will continue to be felt for years to come. As we move forward, we remain committed to building on that foundation, maintaining stability in our classrooms, and ensuring our students have the resources and oopportunities they need to succeed. In doing so, we will continue carrying forward the mission Dr. Eller has championed throughout her career: Equipping Everyone for Excellence,” Board President Olwyn Twymon said.

Dr. Eller’s journey in education has taken her through five diverse school systems and a variety of leadership roles – from classroom teacher to superintendent. Along the way, she has remained grounded in a simple belief: meaningful school improvement begins with people.
