Childersburg – The Childersburg Council, at the request of the State ABC Board, approved Ordinance 1159, which sets a 1-year moratorium on hemp sales inside the city limits.
In other new business, the Council approved Resolution 2026-29, which sets a “discovery” fee schedule to cover the labor and printing costs for requested documents such as police and accident reports, and other documents. This follows action taken during the September 1st meeting for records requests at City Hall.
A pair of Childersburg Housing Authority members were reappointed to that panel. Gene Piatkowski will serve a term expiring on 2/3/2030, and Frank Black will serve until 2/3/2031.
The Council approved an advertisement with the Childersburg Tip-Off Club in the amount of $300, paid from Fund 23-LRA.
FY2027 Fraternal Order of Police dues were approved for payment on behalf of 17 Childersburg police officers in the amount of $510, paid from Fund 10.
Payments were approved for invoices in the amount of $109,530.08.
The next regular meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday, October 6th at 6:00 p.m., following a 5:30 work session.
It was announced during the pre-meeting work session that Childersburg was approved for a TAP Grant in the amount of $800,000 for sidewalk and lamppost improvements along the rest of 1st Street as well as 8th Avenue.
A representative of the Talladega County Drug Task Force appeared before the Council to make their annual budget request, looking for additional money to help cover an increase in operational costs.
Mayor Ken Wesson said that he received a letter from E-911 that said that they will be readdressing the entirety of Coosa Pines Drive, along with a number of intersecting roads. It will affect about 120 addresses. “They inform us,” said Wesson, “but we have no say or authority over the changes.”
