Pedestrian dies after being hit by SUV on Hwy 280 in Shelby County

Shelby County – A Birmingham man, 55-year-old Raymond S. Theriault, died after he was struck by an SUV on U.S. Highway 280 in Shelby County.

According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the crash happened about 8:15 p.m. on Saturday (9/5) near the 8-mile marker, less than a mile east of Hoover city limits.

Theriault was taken to UAB Hospital, where he later died from his injuries. No explanation has been released as to why Theriault was in the roadway, or whether any other factors contributed to the crash. ALEA’s Highway Patrol Division continues to investigate.
