Oak Grove has moved bulk waste services in-house

Oak Grove – In their regular meeting this week, the Oak Gove Council moved bulk waste, yard debris, and leaf collection services in-house, as they cancelled a resolution vote for roll-off container rental and hauling services and approving a related ordinance.

The new Ordinance #137 established regulations for the Oak Grove Public Works Department for curbside collection services. Bulk waste pick-ups will be scheduled for the first and third Mondays of each month. One important point means that contracted tree and other services on your property will not be eligible for town pick-up. They must be handled as part of your contract with those providing the services.

The Town Council handled three items for the Volunteer Fire Department. $1,500 was appropriated for the purchase of a storage system for the department’s utility vehicle. Various uniform replacement and new volunteer uniform pieces were approved in the amount of $1,402. Josh Leonard was approved as a new member of the VFD. It was announced that the Oak Grove VFD is now working with the Sylacauga Fire Department on providing mutual aid on all calls, as well as holding cooperative training sessions.

With approval of job descriptions for the Transportation Coordinator and part-time diver/ dispatcher, the Council has now completed its review and update for all town positions.

In order to meet ADA compliance, the Town Council approved a quote from Sylacauga Glass to replace the Town Hall front door at a cost of $6,456.

A request for the Public Works Department to purchase a Chipper was tabled for more information.

Resolution #662 was approved to issue a Public Nuisance – Weed Abatement Notice for a property owner on Cole Lane.

The Council approved a computer operating memory upgrade for the Assistant Clerk’s computer at a cost of $693.11, while tabling action for the Clerk’s computer to gather more information on a replacement computer instead.

David Harris reported that plans for the October 11th Fall Festival are complete. One of several additions to the event line-up is a new Dunking Booth, which will serve as a fund-raiser for B.B. Comer Elementary School teachers for covering the costs of supplies.

A Clean-up Day for the Town of Oak Grove was announced, to be held on Saturday, November 21, 2026.
