Calera Police arrest animal cruelty suspect

Calera – Calera Police Department arrested a Lowndes County man after he turned himself in after being involved in the death of a small dog that suffered blunt force trauma injuries earlier this week.

Chandler Jeremiah James was arrested on charges of cruelty to animals with a $5,000 bond and was released after posting bail.

Calera Police Department officers received information about an injured dog and began an investigation. The dog was taken to a Birmingham veterinary hospital. Efforts were made to save the dog’s life, but the injuries were simply too severe.
