A man has been arrested attempting to steal meat in Calera

Calera – Calera Police Department have identified and arrested for attempting to steal numerous packages of steaks from the local Walmart.

Kerry Dewayne Lykes was booked into the Shelby County Jail on the following charges on a total of $10,000 bond:

Larceny/theft, $500 or less
Attempting to elude a police officer
Two counts of misdemeanor alias writ of arrest
First degree retail theft,

According to an official release from CPD, dispatch received a call from Walmart about a suspect who was stealing from the store. A CPD officer quickly responded and spotted Lykes, who then allegedly ran from the officer. It turned out that Lykes has active warrants from Elmore County, in addition to others in Shelby County. A search of his vehicle led to the discovery of eight more packages of steak with Sav-Mor wrapping, along with a case of beer stolen from Dollar General.
