Oak Grove is applying for Rebuild Alabama grant funds for paving

Oak Grove – Resolution 655 was approved Tuesday night by the Oak Grove Town Council, authorizing an agreement with Engineering, Environmental & Forestry Services (EEFS) Company PC to apply for Rebuild Alabama grant funds in the amount of $258,452 for street paving. The local match will be $8,425. EEFS will lead the paving to completion.

Four new and one tabled application from last month for the Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Department were approved by the Council. Crista Baird, Hunter Smith, Jessie Nelson, Kanyon Ogle, and Emily Preuss were approved to join the department.

A discussion on the purchase of a new fire engine for the VFD turned into approval for a loan from the Town to the department, if a grant application is approved for the purchase of a new fire engine at a cost of $714,000. The loan of up to $110,000 will cover the anticipated local matching fund requirement. The VFD anticipates an answer on their grant request to come in September, in time to secure a 2026 fire engine at current pricing.

Resolution 654 declared three trucks as surplus and no longer necessary for municipal purposes, allowing for them to be disposed of. These vehicles were described as “working, but well worn.”

Resolution 656 allocated $650 to be paid as one-time, lump-sum payments to eligible retirees. Three retirees will each get a share of the funds.

Mayor Tony White read a Proclamation to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Declaration of Independence.

With the project to clear the lot across from Town Hall complete, the Mayor presented a pair of quotes from the contractor, The original agreement called for 50 loads of dirt at $200 per load. As it turned out, the project required 182 loads of dirt. The Council approved a $6,600 payment to make up for the difference.
