
Sylacauga – The Sylacauga Police Department was recently informed of a scam attempt involving a phone call appearing to come from “The City of Sylacauga” using the old police department phone number of (256) 245-4334.
The caller falsely identified himself as Chief of Police Rondell Muse and advised the resident that there was an issue involving their account. Fortunately, the resident recognized the suspicious activity and immediately hung up the phone.
Please be advised:
🚫 Chief Rondell Muse will NOT personally call citizens regarding scams, bank accounts, payments, or financial matters.
🚫 The Sylacauga Police Department will NEVER request money, banking information, gift cards, or personal account details over the phone.
Scammers are capable of “spoofing” phone numbers to make calls appear legitimate. Always use caution when receiving unexpected calls requesting personal or financial information.
If you receive a suspicious phone call:
- Do not provide any personal information
- Hang up immediately
- Contact the Sylacauga Police Department directly through official contact information to verify the call
