18-wheelers help stop speeding, reckless vehicle on I-65

Calera – A pair of 18-wheeler rigs on Interstate-65 helped end a high-speed chase in Shelby County this past weekend.

The Calera Police Department said one of their patrol officers saw a vehicle on I-65 at around 2:45 a.m., speeding through the construction zone on I-65 South, passing cars in what they described as a “reckless manner.”

As law enforcement from Chilton County were preparing to assist, a pair tractor trailers traveling at the same speed blocked both lanes and forced the speeding vehicle to brake and leave the interstate.

Calera Police Chief David Hyche praised the drivers for their “reverse Smokey and the Bandit” move to help stop the driver who, by then, was off the interstate, was arrested.
