Calera Police Department adds new regulations for Flock camera use

Calera – The Calera Police Department has put new guardrails in place to ensure its officers are not misusing Flock cameras.

Calera Police Chief David Hyche says that automatic license plate readers are helpful tools for law enforcement, adding that it is clear that these systems can be abused, which is why the department is taking steps to prevent that from happening in Calera.

The City set up an audit system for the month of August, every one of their uses will be evaluated to make certain that there was a valid investigative reason for every Flock query made. Hyche says that Calera officers are required to sign agreements acknowledging the rules surrounding Flock camera usage.
