
Odenville – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Sunday afternoon in Odenville, setting off a string of other incidents, including shots fired and another car crash.
The Odenville Police Department said officers and firefighters responded around 4:30 p.m. to the Piggly Wiggly on Council Drive after receiving reports of a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle in the parking lot. While on the way to the scene, dispatchers learned the driver had fled the scene and pulled onto U.S. Highway 411, where police said the driver was involved in a second crash.
A citizen who witnessed the initial incident followed the driver and confronted him on the highway. During that confrontation, one of the two people involved displayed a firearm, and shots were fired.Though no one was struck by the gunfire, and no serious injuries were reported, the driver was taken to a hospital and is being held while the investigation continues. The pedestrian who was struck in the parking lot was taken to a hospital by private vehicle.
