Childersburg – The Childersburg Council approved Resolution 2026 – 16, which approved the agreement with ALDOT for a grant project to complete an unfinished access road inside the Childersburg Industrial Park from gravel to paved.
“We’ve been working on this project for quite a while now,” said Mayor Ken Wesson, “and this is an important step in providing for the road needs of expanding local industries.”
The $3.29 million road project was made possible thanks to an industrial access grant from ALDOT. Work is expected to begin in August to create access for current expansions of a pair of industries, Cooper Steel South and Blair Block/ SuperRock.
Another Resolution, 2026-15 was approved, that will allocate $7,922 in total funding for one-time lump sum payments for eligible City retirees provided by ACT 2026-608.
The Council approved a $5,000 partnership with the Childersburg Area Chamber of Commerce hosting of the “Stars Over Childersburg” event to be held on Friday, July 3rd in the downtown area. The money allocated is direct support for the fireworks display.
A trio of personnel moves for the Fire Department were approved. Patrick Baggett will be classified from fire/medic full-time to part-time temporary status with no change in the rate of pay. Also, Layton Kent and Walker Russell will be classified from firefighter part-time temporary to full-time permanent with no change in their rate of pay.
The Council approved payment of invoices in the amount of $106,180.97.
The next regular Council meeting is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday June 16th, preceded by a work session at 10:30.
