Ragland rallies during meeting ahead of vote on high school’s future

Ragland – The Ragland High School library was packed last week for a St. Clair County Board of Education meeting where residents were given an opportunity to speak and ask questions about a proposed property tax increase that will determine whether Ragland High School stays open.

The proposed 5-mil increase will keep the doors of Ragland High School open. Without the additional funding, the school will close at the end of the 2026-2027 school year. The Ragland elementary and middle schools have great numbers, but current low enrollment at the high school limits state funding.

The future of Ragland High School is up to those living within the Ragland School Attendance and Tax district, not just those in the town. Voters can cast their ballot May 19th.
