Oak Grove Council votes to accept a bid to improve public property across from Town Hall

Oak Grove – The Oak Grove Town Council approved a bid for $93,300 from Alabama Grading for improvement to the public property across from Town Hall, to include clearing, grubbing, stump grinding, as well as the fill and dirt hauling necessary to complete grading and balancing for future use.

Councilman David Harris said that plans for a pavilion and possible a future home to a food truck court will be addressed at a later date, once this initial project is complete, “In the meantime, the property will be available for needed overflow parking for activities at Town Hall and Oak Grove Park.”

In other New Business, the Council approved Volunteer Fire Department applications for Katelyn Caudle and Danny Lockridge, along with a limited-duty request to bring back long-time department member, Robert Baird.

Repairs were authorized to a sewer lift pump in the amount of $5,159 he pump will be used as a back-up for the east-side pump station.

The Council voted to open a $50,000 13-month Certificate of Deposit at First Bank of Alabama in order to gain interest in the funds.

As part of an on-going project to review town employee job descriptions according to guidance from a performed study, the Council accepted a change for the Street Department positions, that will now be referred to as Public Works positions of Supervisor, Laborer, and Part-Time Laborers.

Prior to the business portion of the meeting, the Council heard various departmental reports. The Public Works Department reported that a new dump trailer is mow in-service and ready for use. The project on Fleming Road was reported to be complete. The Nutrition/Senior Department reported the death of one home-bound mal recipient, as well as a return to meals at the Senior Center by another home-bound recipient. The Transportation Department reported that all three vehicles were in service during a busy March. Those vehicles covered 2,334 miles during a reported 502 trips.

The Talladega County Commission & County Commissioner Malley Limbaugh with hold a “Community Clean-up” project on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with a container available across Highway 280 from Toyota of Sylacauga. Items allowed include Brush-yard waste, cabinetry, cardboard boxes, clothing, furniture, mattresses, old shingles, scrap building materials. sheet rock, toys, and toilets.
