Smith Station – A structure fire in Lee County has had one fatality and one victim injured.
Smiths Station Fire Protection District and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene on Lee Road 211 on Saturday (3/21), several other emergency crews followed. They described the secene as smoke heavy, adding that they found a victim just inside the door after they forced their way through the entrance.
That victim was taken to safety and given life-saving medical treatment before being taken to the local hospital. While additional crews from the Ladonia Fire Department helped contain the blaze, a second victim was found in a different part of the structure.
The second victim was pronounced dead on the scene. The fire has now been turned over to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office Investigation Division and the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office for investigation.
