Vehicles dominated the Childersburg Council agenda

Childersburg – The Childersburg City Council agenda dealt with city vehicles, new and old, on Tuesday morning, March 17th.

Resolution 2026-10 authorized Mayor Ken Wesson to dispose of nine scrap vehicles from the Street Department lot after the Council declared them as surplus, no longer needed for municipal or public purposes. The vehicles have been used for years as sources for spare parts. There were three Crown Vics, four Chevy Tahoes, a Ford Expedition, as well as a Hyster forklift.

Then, the Council approved the purchase of vehicles from the state bid list for the Police Department and the Recreation Department. A 2026 Ford Explorer will be assigned to the Parks and Recreation Department. The cost was $41, 206. A 2026 Ford Explorer Interceptor will be assigned to the Police Department. The cost was $63,403.

The Fire Department was granted permission to reclassify Firefighter/Paramedic Alex Knight and Firefighter/Advanced Grady Gentry from full-time permanent to part-time temporary with no change in the rate of pay.

The Council approved the hiring of the following as part-time temporary for the Fire Department: Stephen Key (Firefighter/Advanced @ $14 per hour); Richard David (Firefighter/Basic @ $12.50 per hour); Robert Wright (Firefighter/Basic @ $12.50 per hour); and Walker Russell (Firefighter/Basic @ $12.50 per hour).

Approval was given to advertise with Childersburg High School Wrestling in the amount of $300 from Fund 23.

The Council approved payment of invoices in the amount of $266,484.69.

The next regular meeting of the Council will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.

Mayor Wesson announced that the final stage of the Pleasant Valley draining project has gained state approval. This project stage will add “wings” to the drainage system to help move storm water out faster.
