A third suspect arrested in probe of Opelika day care fires

Opelika – A Tuskegee man, 51-year-old Terrence Johnson, was arrested Tuesday night on two counts of second-degree arson. According to the Better Business Bureau website, Johnson is the owner of By His Grace Daycare Center, which has locations in Opelika, Montgomery, and Tuskegee.

Johnson’s arrest stems from two fires that occurred at By His Grace Daycare on January 13th and Learning Center and Children Palace Learning Center six days later. Johnson is also a candidate for Alabama House Representative District 82 in the May 2026 election. District 82 includes parts of Lee and Macon counties.
