East Central Alabama is under two weather advisories and a warning

Sylacauga – The National Weather Service has issued a trio of weather statements for the following counties: Calhoun, Cherokee, Cleburne, Talladega, Clay, Randolph, Coosa,
Tallapoosa, Chambers, Elmore, Montgomery, Macon, Bullock, Lee, Russell, Pike, and Barbour Counties.

A “Cold Weather Advisory” remains in effect from 12:00 midnight tonight to 12:00 Noon on Saturday. For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 4-degrees above are expected.

A “Wind Advisory” is in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday. For the Wind Advisory, northwest winds 15 to 25 miles per hour, with gusts up to 40 miles per hour expected.

An “Extreme Cold WARNING” is in effect from 12:00 noon Saturday to 12:00 Noon on Sunday. For the Extreme Cold WARNING, dangerously cold wind chills below 5-degrees are expected.

Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Trees could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to thesetemperatures. An extended period of subfreezing temperatures could cause pipes to burst.

PRECAUTIONARY/ PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution. Secure outdoor objects. Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.

Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of pipes they should be wrapped, drained, and/or allowed to drip slowly. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.
