Training is the lifeblood for first responders

CHILDERSBURG, Ala. – Continuing training is a big part of the job for first responders, sometimes as refresher courses, sometimes learning new techniques for dealing with common issues. that’s no exception for the Childersburg Police Department.

You may notice when the City Council approves specialized out-of-town training expenses. Select officers attend and return to pass along what they’ve learned during regular department training sessions. The number and regularity of training sessions has grown.

Childersburg Police officers have recently completed training in the following areas:

  • Roadside Interview Techniques
  • Leading Without Rank: The Emerging Leader
  • Problem Solving In Your Community: The Police Role
  • Human Trafficking
  • Pro-Active Criminal Patrolling

Officers have been approved for a specialized driving course – SkidCar Training. Skid-Car Training is a specialized driver training program that utilizes the SKIDCAR® system to provide a realistic and controlled environment for learning skid prevention and control. The system is designed to simulate various driving conditions, such as wet pavement, snow, ice, and dry pavement, allowing drivers to practice techniques for maintaining vehicle control and avoiding skids.

All CPD officers recently completed the APOST Firearms Qualification course, with 6 officers scoring 90 or better. All officers also completed in-house Advanced Firearms Training organized by Lt. Hughes and Sgt. Northcutt.

Officer Blair graduated November 23rd from the Northeast Alabama Police Academy and has started the Field Training Officer Program.

And soon, the department will be accepting applications for a Citizen Police Academy with numerous benefits for both the community and law enforcement.
