
Coosa County – A community meeting in Kellyton this past week focused on a potential rock quarry that is proposed on Coosa County Road 87. Coosa County District 1 Commissioner John Forbus said the land is about 200 acres, close to homes and businesses.
Among the concerns raised by the crowd were nearby property values, water levels, trains blocking roads, and dust from the quarry aggravating those with illnesses.
Furbus told the crowd that with the need for jobs and revenue, but he has an issue with the location in close proximity to houses and businesses. It’s part of his job to bring such to the area, just not at the cost of quality of life. He said that since Coosa County has no zoning regulations, that he is looking into existing state laws that could halt the project.
Organizers of the meeting urged residents to call their state senators and representatives to voice their concerns.
