Sylacauga Council passes a moratorium on tobacco, vape and liquor stores

Sylacauga – At the request of Bryan Taunton of the Sylacauga Commercial Development Authority, the Sylacauga approved a six-month moratorium on the issuance of new business licenses for tobacco, vape and liquor stores in the city limits.

The measure would put a temporary ban on business licenses for new establishments who derive more than 50 percent of their income from tobacco, vape or alcohol products.

The measure was approved on a unanimous 4-0 vote, with Councilman Laura Barlow Heath absent. She was busy at Coosa Valley Medical Center, giving birth to the city’s first new infant of the year, Joseph “Barlow” Heath. He was born on January 2 at 3:30 p.m., measuring in at 9 pounds, 20 inches long.
